What is Pediatric Sedation Dentistry?
Why is Sedation Dentistry Important for Kids?
Our Pediatric Sedation Options
- Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a gentle and safe sedation option. It works by mixing with oxygen and is inhaled through a small mask that fits comfortably over your child’s nose. Nitrous oxide helps your child feel relaxed and happy, with minimal side effects. It's easy to control, and the effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed, so your child can resume normal activities right after their appointment. - Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves giving your child a medication in the form of a pill or liquid before their dental procedure. This helps your child feel relaxed and at ease during their treatment. Oral sedation is suitable for children who need a little extra help to stay calm but don’t require deep sedation. Unlike nitrous oxide, the effects last longer, and your child may feel a bit drowsy after the procedure.
What to Expect During Sedation Dentistry
When your child undergoes sedation, we will closely monitor their safety throughout the entire procedure. Before the procedure, our team will explain the sedation process to both you and your child, ensuring you feel comfortable with the plan. We also take into account your child’s medical history and preferences to determine the most appropriate sedation option for them.
For Nitrous Oxide, your child will breathe through a small mask, and they will remain awake but relaxed. After the procedure, they will quickly return to normal.
For Oral Sedation, your child will take a medication before the appointment, which will help them stay calm. They may feel drowsy afterward, and you’ll need to stay with them until they fully recover.
